News in Cognac
The cognac crisis and hemp in Charente
The cognac industry is facing a crisis and wants to uproot some of its vines. We have devoted an article to the place that hemp can take in it.
- 141 million of cognac bottles shipped in 2025 (BNIC)
- 12,000 to 13,000 ha of vines that the industry wants to uproot over several years (BNIC, AFP)
- 45 ha of hemp grown in Charente in 2026 by nine farmers from the Chanvre 16 collective
Hemp will not replace vines: 45 hectares represent about 0.4% of the area the industry wants to uproot. It can help some farms diversify their crops, in rotation and with a modest margin. The region's projects focus on straw and seed; the CBD flower we sell belongs to a different industry.
Cloud Store CBD was born from this crisis, as told on the Our Story page. Our flowers are not grown in Charente today.
Sources: BNIC, AFP, Sud Ouest, Vitisphere and Charente Libre, cited in our article of October 14, 2026 and consulted on October 13, 2026.
