You see an ad: "25% boosted CBD flower," sometimes 30%, at a price that doesn't match the number. Your first reaction is correct: a hemp flower doesn't naturally reach 25% CBD. This level wasn't grown in the plant—it was added after harvest. The word "boosted" means exactly that: laboratory enrichment, sprayed or soaked onto a flower that, on its own, peaked much lower. The real question remains, the one that interests us here: with what, and is it a problem?

What exactly is a "boosted" flower?

A boosted flower—also called "enriched," "infused," or "CBD boosted"—is a hemp flower to which cannabinoids have been added after harvest. The plant did its job, it produced what it knew how to produce, then we came in and enhanced the number on top.

This is not illegal in itself, and it's not new. What has changed is the scale: the race for the highest displayed percentage has become the main selling point in the sector, and enrichment is the fastest and cheapest way to achieve it. An average flower costs little; CBD isolate costs little; combining the two allows "25%" to be written on a sachet and sold at a premium price.

Vocabulary of the section

Isolate: 99% pure CBD, a white crystalline powder, without terpenes or other cannabinoids. Distillate: a thick, concentrated extract, which retains more material than isolate. Boost / spray / infusion: the three market terms to describe the same action, applying one or the other to a flower. To understand what these words imply regarding extracts, we have detailed the differences between full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate.

The three ways to boost a flower

Three processes cover almost everything circulating: spraying isolate dissolved in a solvent, a distillate bath, and coating with extract and kief. The first two aim to remain invisible, the third is acknowledged. It is this difference in intention that matters most.

1. Airbrush spraying ("spraying")

This is by far the dominant method. CBD isolate is dissolved in a volatile solvent—most often ethanol, sometimes propylene glycol—the solution is loaded into an airbrush, and the flowers are sprayed as evenly as possible. The solvent evaporates, and the CBD remains attached to the surface of the bud. It takes a few minutes of work to boost a batch from 10% to 20% on paper.

2. Distillate bath

More rustic: flowers are repeatedly dipped in warm distillate until they soak it up like a sponge. The result is more saturated than a simple surface spray, but the flower loses its original texture—it becomes sticky, heavy, and its natural scent disappears under that of the extract.

3. Moonrock-style coating

Here, nothing is hidden: the flower is coated with oil or extract, then rolled in kief (sifted trichomes). It's an acknowledged construction, sold as such, with an immediately recognizable appearance. We'll come back to this later, because it's the only one of the three processes that we practice.

The natural ceiling: why 25% doesn't exist in a flower

A well-cultivated indoor hemp flower, with rich genetics, typically ranges between 10 and 15% CBD. The best ones reach 16-21%. This is the agronomic ceiling, and it's the one for our most potent strains—Amnesia US, Sour Diesel GP3, M.A.C—advertised within this range because that's what the plant yields.

So when a whole flower is advertised at 25 or 30%, there are only two possible explanations: either the number is false, or it has been manufactured. There is no third option. The CBD Observatory speaks of a veritable "war of numbers" in the European market, where the displayed percentage has become a marketing argument disconnected from what the plant can naturally produce.

The reasoning to keep in mind

A high percentage in a resin or a concentrate is normal: these are extracts, where the material has been concentrated. Our 3x Filtered resin shows 14% CBD and 45% CBG because it is made of sifted trichomes, not flower. A high percentage in a whole flower, however, cannot be explained by cultivation. That's when you need to ask questions.

Is it unhealthy? What we really know

"Boosted" does not automatically mean "dangerous." When enrichment is done with CBD extracted from hemp, there is no known toxicity linked to the molecule itself—the World Health Organization describes CBD as well-tolerated, with no potential for abuse. The real problems lie elsewhere, and there are four of them.

Solvent residues

This is the primary area of concern. To spray isolate, it must be dissolved. Ethanol evaporates well, propylene glycol much less so. What doesn't evaporate remains on the flower and ends up being inhaled. Heated propylene glycol is irritating to the respiratory tract—this is a well-documented debate in the vaping community. The quality of the initial isolate also matters: a low-grade isolate can itself carry extraction residues.

The entourage effect is lost

A flower is a matrix: CBD, but also CBG, CBN, CBC, dozens of terpenes and flavonoids that work together—the synergy described by researcher Ethan Russo in 2011. Sprayed isolate provides only one molecule, alone. The number is inflated by impoverishing the profile. This is a paradox worth stating: a "20% boosted" flower can offer a flatter experience than a natural 13% flower with a beautiful terpene profile.

The distribution is never homogeneous

Spraying deposits more material on exposed surfaces than in the core of the bud. As a result, two buds from the same bag do not contain the same dose. For those seeking regular and predictable use, this is a real disadvantage—and the exact opposite of what microdosing allows.

And combustion, in all this

Many boosted flowers are sold with the mention "for vaporization only." This is not a quirk: burning plant material above 230°C produces tars, carbon monoxide, and combustion compounds, whether boosted or not. Vaporization, between 150 and 210°C, significantly reduces these by-products. That said, no inhalation is neutral for the lungs: we are talking about risk reduction, not risk absence.

The real red line: boosting with synthetic cannabinoids

The same spraying technique used to add CBD is also used to add synthetic cannabinoids. It's the same gesture, the same equipment, the same final appearance—but a psychoactive product instead of a calming one. Here, we are no longer talking about degraded quality: we are talking about safety.

Concretely, we find something completely different in these flowers: HHC, H4CBD, HHCPO, and recently 10-OH-HHC. These are semi-synthetic cannabinoids, obtained by chemical transformation in the laboratory. They do not exist—or only in trace amounts—in the plant. And unlike CBD, they are psychoactive.

This is the phenomenon the AFP reported on in October 2025, investigating the surge in "bad trips" linked to tampered CBD: several hundred cases of poisoning recorded by health authorities since the beginning of 2024, across a network of approximately 2,000 points of sale in France. People buying CBD and receiving something else.

Where does the law stand, precisely

The ANSM is closing doors one by one. HHC, HHC-O, and HHC-P have been classified as narcotics since the decision of June 12, 2023. H4CBD, THCP, HHCPO, and others followed with the decisions of May 22 and June 3, 2024. The latter even introduces a generic clause targeting "any substance derived from the benzo[c]chromene nucleus," listing the relevant substitution positions: 1, 2, 4, 3, 6, and 9.

Position 10 is not listed. And 10-OH-HHC is, precisely, an HHC hydroxylated at position 10. According to the consolidated list of narcotics published by the ANSM and updated on February 16, 2026, this molecule is not named. This is the whole point of the maneuver: each prohibition is followed by a derivative shifted one step, designed to slip through the cracks of the text.

"Not yet banned" does not mean "safe"

The absence of a name in an order says nothing about a molecule's toxicity—it merely states that the administration has not yet caught up with the laboratory. Data on the medium- and long-term effects of 10-OH-HHC are almost non-existent, and the status of these derivatives can change from one decision to another, without notice. What about moonrock? Our own case

Yes, a moonrock is indeed an enriched flower—and we sell one, the Moonrock 57%. It would be easy to conclude "boosted flower = scam" and then move on, hoping no one looks at our own catalog. We might as well state the facts ourselves.

A moonrock is a flower onto which material has been added: an extract, then a kief coating. The percentage does not come from cultivation, and claiming otherwise would be a lie. The difference with what is described above lies in three points, and these are the only ones that matter to us:

  • What is added comes from the plant. Hemp extract and trichomes, not a molecule designed in a laboratory to circumvent regulatory text.
  • The product does not pretend to be something it's not. A moonrock looks like a moonrock. No one buys a natural flower believing that genetics make it 57%.
  • The percentage is announced for what it is, on a concentrate product, not on a disguised whole flower.

The line, therefore, is not natural versus enriched. It is cannabinoid derived from hemp versus synthetic molecule, and announced enrichment versus disguised percentage. This was also the conclusion we reached when looking for which CBD flower is the most potent: potency is not a problem, deception about its origin is.

Six signs to spot a boosted flower

Six clues can help identify enrichment without laboratory equipment: a percentage above the agronomic ceiling, a shiny or sticky appearance, a faint odor, an inconsistent price, a "vaporization only" mention, and range names in acronyms. None suffice alone; three together warrant a question to the seller.

And the simplest question of all, the one that makes the difference: "is your flower enriched, and with what?" A seller who answers clearly has nothing to hide. A seller who talks about "proprietary technology" without naming the molecule, does.

What exactly is a boosted CBD flower?

It's a hemp flower enriched with cannabinoids after harvest, not through cultivation. Three main processes are used: spraying CBD isolate dissolved in a solvent, soaking in a distillate bath, and coating with extract and kief (moonrock type). The percentage displayed on the label corresponds to the finished product, not what the plant naturally produced.

Are boosted CBD flowers dangerous?

That depends entirely on what has been added. When enriched with CBD extracted from hemp, a flower does not present known toxicity related to the molecule, but it does expose users to inhaled solvent residues (ethanol, propylene glycol), uneven dosing from one bud to another, and the loss of the entourage effect. How can you tell if a CBD flower has been boosted?

The first clue is the percentage: above 22% for a whole flower, enrichment is almost certain. Add to that the appearance (shiny, sticky, or powdery), the smell (faint or chemical instead of a complex aromatic profile), a low price despite a high percentage, and range mentions using acronyms. The decisive test is to ask the seller directly and see if they name the added molecule.

Is 10-OH-HHC legal in France?

It is not named in the consolidated list of substances classified as narcotics published by ANSM and updated on February 16, 2026. The generic clause of the decision of May 22, 2024, targets substances derived from the benzo[c]chromene nucleus substituted at positions 1, 2, 4, 3, 6, and 9 — position 10, that of 10-OH-HHC, is not listed. It is therefore not an authorized molecule; it is a molecule not yet named, in a gray area that each new decision reduces. The status can change at any time.

Is 10-OH-HHC dangerous?

Data is lacking, and that is precisely the problem. It is a semi-synthetic derivative of HHC, psychoactive, with no scientific data on its medium and long-term effects. European health authorities document an increase in reports of intoxication linked to semi-synthetic cannabinoids as a whole. If you have any doubts about a product you have consumed, consult a healthcare professional or an addictovigilance center.

What is the strongest naturally occurring CBD flower?

In carefully cultivated indoor environments, the best genetics reach 16 to 21% CBD — this is the range for our most potent strains, such as Amnesia US or Sour Diesel GP3. This is the realistic ceiling for a whole flower. Higher percentages concern concentrates: resins, kief, moonrocks, where the material has been extracted and concentrated.

Is moonrock a boosted flower?

Yes, in the technical sense: it is a flower enriched with extract then rolled in kief. The difference lies in transparency and the nature of the addition. What is added comes from hemp, the product is sold as a concentrate and not as a natural flower, and the percentage is announced for what it is. A moonrock does not pretend to be a 57% genetic strain.

Can a boosted flower be vaporized safely?
