How to choose your CBD flower: aromas, cultivation, potency & style
Choosing a CBD flower isn't always easy: complicated names, different profiles, indoor, greenhouse… We've put together a simple, no-nonsense guide to help you find what really suits you.
1. Start with what you like to smell like
The most important thing is the **flavors**. Same strain, same CBD level: if you don't like the smell, you'll never take it out of the bag.
Some key profiles:
- Fruity / candy : perfect if you want something indulgent and modern.
Typical examples: varieties such as * Bubble Gum *, * Rainbow *, * Zkittlez *…
- Citrus / lemon : fresher and brighter, with a zesty or tangy candy side.
Examples: *Lemon Zkittlez*, some *Amnesia*.
- Creamy / dessert : rounded, soft, reminiscent of cake, ice cream, vanilla.
Examples: Ice Cream , Sorbet , Cookies families…
- Diesel / gasy / earthy : more “classic”, strong character, sometimes spicy or woody.
Examples: Sour Diesel , Strawberry Diesel , OG, Kush , etc.
👉 When you look at a product description, focus first on the flavor information . At Cloud Store, we describe it clearly so you can get a feel for it before even opening the bag.
2. Indoor, greenhouse, hydroponics: what difference does it make?
The cultivation method mainly affects the visual appearance, regularity, and sometimes the intensity of the aromas.
Indoor / indoor hydroponics
Indoor, controlled cultivation.
Benefits :
- often a cleaner appearance, dense and well-manicured buds,
- stable aromatic profiles from batch to batch.
If you want flowers that are very visually striking and regular, this is often the right choice.
Greenhouse
Greenhouse cultivation, between outdoor and indoor.
Benefits :
- good compromise between quality and price ,
- natural light + plant protection.
Ideal if you want to fill your jars or grinder without breaking the bank, while still maintaining good quality.
In product descriptions, always look at the " Cultivation " line: it quickly tells you what type of product you are dealing with.
3. Understanding the levels: CBD, CBG, CBN, and legal THC
On a CBD flower, you will almost always see the following indicated:
- the CBD content (e.g., 12%, 14%, 19%…)
- the mention THC ≤ 0.3% , mandatory to remain compliant with current regulations.
The higher the CBD content, the more cannabinoids the flower contains , but it's not a race for numbers: the aromatic profile counts as much, or even more, than the displayed percentage.
On some resins, you'll also see CBG or CBN listed. These are other cannabinoids naturally present in hemp. At Cloud Store, we clearly indicate the levels on each product page so you know exactly what you're buying.
Important: CBD products are not medicines. None of our flowers or resins are intended to treat or cure anything.
4. Look at the appearance without being misled by the photos
A few quick points to note:
- Manicure : the fewer leaves there are, the more meticulous the work.
- compact/dense buds = rather high-end,
- small buds = same flowers but in smaller sizes, often more affordable.
- Colour : greens, sometimes with purple or orange highlights on certain genetics.
The photos are there to guide you, but what matters most is the description: aromas, cultivation, percentage, type of product. That's what should decide, not an overly flattering zoom.
5. Are you a beginner? The easiest way: try out several profiles
If you don't yet know what you like:
avoid starting directly with 50g of the same variety,
- opt for a basket with several different flowers **,
- or a discovery pack that includes several profiles.
This allows you to compare the aromas, textures, appearance, and to note what you prefer: fruity, diesel, creamy, citrus, kush…
At Cloud Store, we have discovery packs with several varieties to help you find your style without any hassle.
